How Often Should You Really Wash Your Sheets?

Slip under cool, clean covers & feel your shoulders drop. Now picture the opposite: stuffy air, itchy skin, corners popping off at 2 am. When life is full, laundry gets bumped. But your sheets touch your skin for hours. They can help you sleep… or they can quietly work against you.

The quick answer for busy brains

  • Wash sheets once a week.

  • Wash every 3-4 days if you run hot, have allergies, share a bed with pets, or sweat at night.

  • Stretch to 10-14 days only if you shower before bed, wear PJs, & don’t have pets or allergies.

  • Pillowcases: every 3-4 days.

  • Duvet cover: every 2-4 weeks.

  • Mattress protector: monthly.

(If someone’s sick, potty training, postpartum, or sweating through perimenopause, wash more often. It’s care, not extra work.)

Why this matters...& what’s hiding in your bed.

  • Sweat & body oils build up fast.

  • Dead skin becomes dust-mite food.

  • Pollen & dust ride in on hair & clothes.

  • Makeup, skincare, hair products - they all rub off on pillowcases.

  • Heat traps happen when sheets don’t breathe or bunch.

So what's this all mean? Night sweats, breakouts, itchy skin, congestion, & cranky mornings. If you’re already stretched thin, this is the hidden friction you so don’t need.

Pain points we’re fixing, one wash at a time

  • “I’m hot at 2 am.” Cooling, moisture-wicking sheets help sweat evaporate so you can easily drift back to sleep.

  • “Our fitted sheet pops off.” Deep pockets with strong elastic stop corner battles.

  • “Laundry takes forever.” Quick-dry fabrics save time & energy.

  • “I’ve been burned by ‘luxury’ that doesn’t last.” You need no-pilling, colorfast fabric that stays soft after many washes .

  • “I need calm neutrals, not fussy care.” Easy-care, wrinkle-resistant sheets in restful colors.

A simple washing rhythm that sticks

  • Pick a day & stick with it. Sunday sheets? Strip the bed before coffee.

  • Keep 2 (or more) sets per bed. One on, one in the wash (& if you're like me... one for those days that the laundry gets backed up). Less stress, longer fabric life.

  • Shower before bed when you can. Cleaner skin = cleaner sheets.

  • Pets in bed? Sweet, but expect more frequent washing.

  • Clean your washer monthly. An empty hot cycle with white vinegar helps prevent musty smells.

  • Dry smart. Low heat, remove promptly, & shake out wrinkles while warm.

(Need a nudge? Set a phone reminder called “Fresh sheets = better sleep.”)

Helpful extras we personally love

  • Gentle, enzyme-free detergent

  • Wool dryer balls to speed dry time

  • Sheet straps if your current fitted sheet is stubborn & you're not ready to get Sweet Sheets® yet

  • Breathable mattress protector to block spills & extend freshness
    - Just be careful picking one because we once had a customer complain about Sweet Sheets® being too hot, when she realized that it was actually her new mattress protector because it wasn't breathable, so it just held all of the heat in.
